Bringing the Epilepsy Community Together

The Epilepsy Leadership Council (ELC) is committed to improving the lives of people living with epilepsy by facilitating collaboration among our members. Our mission is to empower the epilepsy community by identifying and addressing the gaps in support, education, clinical care, and research.

2025 Activities

Advocacy

  • Updated ELC’s Policy Agenda
  • Participated in finalizing the National Plan for Epilepsy Committee’s (NPEC) Community Consensus Priorities
  • Circulated advocacy sign-on opportunities in line with ELC’s Policy Agenda

Communications

  • Launched new website and updated platform for ELC’s work

Special projects

  • ELC Chair served as the ELC rep for planning the Curing the Epilepsies Conference

Membership

  • Update process to onboard new members
  • Develop new membership categories and obtain approval from ELC vote

Community:

  • Revamp quarterly membership meeting agendas to include member spotlights, advocacy updates, and community updates
  • Introduce townhall meetings on topics like TBI, seizures in the elderly, etc.

Advocacy

  • Re-establish advocacy committee
  • Analyze policy agenda and intersection with other organization’s advocacy priorities
  • Select topic from policy agenda and develop resource/host education session
  • Establish system to report summarize advocacy activities and their impact on an annual basis

Communications

  • Establish communications committee
  • Develop communications calendar
  • Establish social media presence

Special projects

  • Convene workgroup to review epidemiological data on epilepsy and educate ELC members on using data in communications
  • Fundraise to support development of an online resource library
